Places and People

When we travel, it's usually either to see friends and family, or to experience another part of nature. We've hiked quite a lot of spectacular places over the years, and some of the photos from those trips are here.

Big Bend National Park

One of our favorite places in the world is Big Bend National Park, in far southwestern Texas. This 100 miles across area is a combination of breathtaking river canyons along the Rio Grande, desert vistas and arroyos of sparse beauty, and mountains of varied flora and fauna. We usually visit in January, where the weather is ideal. Although it can be cold at night, during the daylight, you can always find an altitude where the temperature is great for hiking: say, between 50 and 75 degrees(F).

A few of our favorite pictures from this visit are here, but you can read the log from this trip and see many more pictures by visiting Stewart and Anne French's web site, as they were our companions and are waaay ahead getting their web site filled in!
